Learn

Learn how to make the numbers manageable

Do not hold the whole problem in your head. Work with one small change at a time.

ThinkTen tells you what the numbers are doing. You never have to remember the name of a move before you can use it.

ThinkTen rule: if a sentence makes you translate the instruction before you can do the math, the instruction is too complicated.
GIVEMove quantity; keep the total.
SLIDEMove both; keep the distance.
COPIESMultiplication means equal copies of the same amount.
HOW MANY?Division can ask how many equal copies make the total.
SHAREDivision can also split a total into equal groups.
How ThinkTen Shows the Thinking

Let the problem choose the clearest picture

You should not have to know what kind of learner you are. ThinkTen can choose the picture that best explains the next thought.

The concept wins. Addition may need a path. Multiplication may need groups. Fractions need equal pieces. ThinkTen does not force every problem into the same picture.
Choose a picture yourself

You can prefer a picture, but ThinkTen will still switch away from it when another picture is clearly easier to understand.

Post-answer Review Show the picture ThinkTen used after each correct answer.
Concept first. Preference second. Training and Show Me use the picture that explains the actual math. Your preference is used only when it still helps.
How the game works
The basic loop
1Hear or read the problem.
2If PREDICT appears, use odd/even only as a quick answer check.
3Change one thing at a time. When new numbers replace the old ones, let the old ones go.
4If you get stuck, press Show Me. ThinkTen should do more of the thinking, not repeat the question.
Why PREDICT?
Odd and even can tell you what kind of answer is possible. Use that only as a quick check; it is not another problem to solve.
Same kind → even   •   Different kinds → odd

THINKTEN FRACTIONS
Start with meaning, not rules

A fraction is pieces of one whole.

First see the WHOLE. Then see how it was CUT into equal pieces. Then COUNT how many pieces you have. MATCH comes later, only when different piece sizes must be combined.
